ASEANAPOL and AMERIPOL Explore Institutional Engagement
Kuala Lumpur, 3 March 2026, The ASEANAPOL Secretariat convened a virtual meeting on 3 March 2026 with the AMERIPOL (Police Community of the Americas) to explore institutional engagement and enhanced inter-regional cooperation.
The meeting was chaired by the Executive Director ASEANAPOL Secretariat, Police Senior Colonel Dr. Kongkrissada Kittithiraphong, who reaffirmed ASEANAPOL’s readiness to strengthen practical and mutually beneficial cooperation with regional policing partners in addressing transnational crime.
The ASEANAPOL delegation also included Police Senior Superintendent Huntal Tambunan, Director for Police Services, and Police Colonel Jean Mary A. Mangahis, Director for Plans and Programs, together with officers of the Secretariat. The AMERIPOL delegation was represented by Police Colonel Giargio De Luca and Sergeant Camilo Guerrero.
Participants exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation in combating transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, cybercrime, trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, terrorism and violent extremism, and financial crimes.
Discussions covered possible modalities for structured collaboration, including information exchange, capacity-building initiatives, sharing of best practices, and participation in relevant meetings and working groups, subject to applicable legal frameworks.
Both organizations expressed their positive disposition toward strengthening institutional engagement. The possibility of formalizing cooperation through an appropriate instrument will be examined in accordance with internal procedures.
The meeting concluded in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
