ASEANAPOL Supports Timor-Leste Police Integration into Regional Alliance Against Transnational Crime

On 11 February 2026, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat convened a virtual coordination meeting with the National Police of Timor‑Leste (PNTL), reaffirming ASEANAPOL’s role as the central platform for uniting ASEAN police forces in the fight against transnational crime.

The meeting was led by Dr.Kongkrissada Kittithiraphong, Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, together with senior ASEANAPOL directors and officers. The PNTL delegation was headed by Henrique Da Costa, Commissioner General and Chief of Police, alongside senior leadership and international cooperation advisers.

Discussions focused on PNTL’s application to join ASEANAPOL, with the Secretariat outlining the rights, responsibilities, and operational benefits of membership, including access to regional intelligence sharing, capacity-building programmes, and participation in coordinated operations. ASEANAPOL emphasised its commitment to supporting new member police forces in aligning with regional standards and collective security frameworks.

The engagement highlighted PNTL’s readiness and strong commitment to join ASEANAPOL and contribute to a unified regional response across the eight ASEANAPOL core crime areas, including terrorism, trafficking in persons, cybercrime, illicit drugs, financial crime, and maritime-related offences.
