Advancing Regional Law Enforcement Cooperation: Embassy Of The Republic Of Korea Visit To Aseanapol
On 9 February 2026, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, led by Executive Director Police Senior Colonel Dr. Kongkrissada Kittithiraphong, received a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The delegation was headed by Mr. Lee Han-li, Consul General, accompanied by Ms. Park Seo-young, Second Secretary; Mr. Yoon Jon-tak, Consul; and Mr. Kan In-cheol, Assistant Consul.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and long-standing partnership between ASEANAPOL and the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), built on mutual trust, shared strategic priorities, and sustained operational cooperation. ASEANAPOL expressed its appreciation to both the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and KNPA for their continued support in strengthening regional law enforcement collaboration.
Discussions focused on advancing cooperation under the Breaking Chains initiative, aimed at countering transnational online scam networks across the ASEAN region. ASEANAPOL welcomed KNPA’s support for the development of Anti-Scam Centres and outlined a coordinated implementation framework covering six key areas: establishment of national anti-scam centres; working group coordination; training and capacity building; global data sharing; joint operations and engagement; and public–private partnerships.
ASEANAPOL noted that National Anti-Scam Centres have already been established in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei Darussalam, with further planning underway to expand implementation in the Philippines, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Lao PDR.
The engagement underscored the shared commitment of ASEANAPOL and one of its valued Dialogue Partners to strengthening regional security and addressing transnational organised crime through practical and results-oriented cooperation. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen collaboration, with ASEANAPOL ready to implement agreed projects under the Breaking Chains framework for 2026–2027.
